INTRODUCTION OF OPTIMUM FLEET RECOMMENDATION. DEVELOPMENTS IN CONSTRUCTION, FORESTRY AND MINING EQUIPMENT, SAE ENGINEERING CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS, NATIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE, MELBOURNE, OCTOBER 21-22, 1986

The amount of construction equipment now produced in the world is incomparably smaller than that of automobiles, but the variety (kinds and sizes) of construction equipment is conversely larger than that of automobiles, thereby indicating that the modes of usage of construction equipment are multifarious. Since construction equipment is used as a production asset, it is vital to the enterprises of customers to select out of a wide variety of construction equipment, appropriate construction equipment to match their purposes, when economy is taken into consideration. Since 1976 Komatsu has been offering optimum fleet recommendation (OFR) as a service whereby the construction equipment most suitable to the conditions given by the customers can be selected out of various types of construction equipment. In parallel with the execution of OFR, various other attempts have been made for the purpose of improving the quality of the OFR service itself. Komatsu is now examining the development of various kinds of measuring equipment, software, etc, as well as an expansion into new fields by combining them. This paper introduces the OFR service and its expansion. For the covering record of the conference see IRRD 808801. (Author/TRRL)
