SHRP CONTRACTS PAVE WAY TO ASPHALT SAVINGS. ASPHALT '89

The Strategic Highway Research Program is a highly foucsed research effort in which 6 topic areas were consolidated into 4 major research efforts and 2 special program areas: innovation deserving exploratory analysis (SHRP-IDEA); and independent innovative research on asphalt (A-IIR). These programs were targeted as areas involving high risk but potentially large payoffs if successful. The plan for research in asphalts addressed the fundamental chemical and physical properties of asphalt cement and their relationship to asphalt mixture performance. Specific topics to be considered were adhesion, steric hardening, absorption, aging, and oxidation. The research contracts resulting from this program are listed.
