HSR VEHICLE PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS
This paper discusses a spectrum of vehicle-related performance criteria and presents representative design characteristics for selected high-speed trains. It is suggested that HSR equipment be selected for corridor application on a site-specific basis of performance and cost characteristics from a total system point of view. It is also suggested that vehicle performance characteristics be evaluated on the basis of objective measures of effectiveness so that true cost-effectiveness may be determined. Measurues of vehicle performance effectiveness are identified. It is also recommended that HSR system planners and designers should consider more than the vehicles alone when assessing potential performance; and the interface implications of other system segments should be considered in terms of their effect on vehicle performance.
