CORNERSTONE OF AVIATION SAFETY
Aviation regulatory inspectors and the work they perform to ensure that aviation is safe, are briefly reviewed. About 500 inspectors work to ensure air transport safety for Transport Canada. They are empowered by the Aeronautics Act to issue and suspend documents (pilot's licences, certificates of airworthiness), and company operating documents. There are 6 types of regulatory inspectors: airworthiness inspectors; passenger safety inspectors; enforcement inspectors; air carrier inspectors; licensing inspectors; and dangerous goods inspectors. Each of these types of inspectors, excluding the last two types are discussed in this article.
