COMPUTERIZED AUTOMATED MAPPING/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
West Columbia, South Carolina, to meet increasing service demand, improved its utilities management capabilities by developing a microcomputer-based automated mapping/facilities management (AM/FM) system. To minimize cost, the system was implemented using only existing in-house computer resources. Central to the AM/FM system's design is a comprehensive template that provides users with an easy-to-follow environment for system development and operation. The system contains geographic information system functionality to support facility management operations. A two-way graphic/non-graphic interface allows the "intelligent" graphic database to be linked to any DOS resident alphanumeric database management system. This article gives further details of the AM/FM system.
