PROBE FOCUSES ON RECONSTRUCTING CONTAINER THAT HELD BOMB ON PAN AM 747
The container that held the bomb which destroyed a Pan American World Airways Boeing 747 over Scotland in December 1988 is being reconstructed by British police. Determination of the exact container in which the bomb was located will allow the investigators to intensify background checks on passengers whose luggage was known to have been placed in that container. Extensive forensic work on the container has thus far led investigators to believe that it may have contained only 5 lb. or less of a Semtex-type explosive.
