This parliamentary report contains the First Report from the Expenditure Committee (Environment sub-committee) on Public Expenditure on Transport. The committee examined and made recommendations on a very wide range of matters affecting transport. Topics covered were: Public expenditure on urban transport, transport supplementary graints and transport policies and programmes; highway maintenance; expenditure on inter-urban transport; inter-urban traffic forecasts; investment criteria and transport co-ordination; and public participation in transportation planning. The report include the complete minutes of evidence taken defore the committee from expert witnesses in the Department of the Environment. A series of appendices give details of both the present and projected expenditure on various modes of transport and incorporate explanations of how future demand for transport is predicted. /TRRL/
