OFFICE EMPLOYEE TRAVEL CHARACTERISTICS DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, CA.
Within the next ten years, it is estimated that 15 million square feet of office space will be added to the downtown area of the City of Los Angeles. To accommodate the traffic demands associated with this development, the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), working with other agencies and the private sector, has begun implementing a number of innovative transportation management programs. The CRA, in an effort to address future demands, has entered into agreements with office developers to establish a series of incentive mechanisms to improve and encourage ridesharing among employees. To measure the effectiveness of those agreements, it is necessary to establish the baseline number or percentage of CBD office workers presently commuting by bus, vanpool, carpool, driving alone, and so on. This paper presents the key findings of a travel survey study that included the participation of over 5,000 office employees and 118 companies.
