DYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF SOILS IN GROUNDS ALONG JAPAN RAILWAYS LINES

In analyzing the seismic behaviors of various structures built on or under the ground, dynamic properties of soils must be known. In this paper, their data which had been obtained from the soils of the grounds along the Japan Railways lines, are summarized. As a result of investigating these data, the following have become clear: (1) the relationship between shear modulus and shear strain and between damping factor and shear strain; the influence of confining pressure on these relationships; (2) the relationship between shear wave velocity and N-value of the standard penetration test; and (3) the relationship between liquefaction strength and relative density.
