ANALYSIS OF CHARACTERISTIC ROUGHNESS PATTERNS IN PAVEMENTS AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ROUGHNESSES AND PAVEMENT DESTRESS
A pilot study of certain pavement distress problems is discussed in this report. Road roughness measurements made with the Surface Dynamics Road Profilometer (SDP) and pavement condition survey data have been analyzed by statistical methods to demonstrate approaches to these problems, and, within the scope of a pilot study, to obtain results. The particular problems addressed are comparisons of characteristic roughness types (as to wavelength, transverse vs. longitudinal effects, etc.) in pavements of different types and ages, and investigation of relationships among various roughness and distress types.
