EFFECT OF CANADA'S NEW DANGEROUS GOODS LEGISLATION ON THE FOR HIRE TRUCKING INDUSTRY
This paper discusses the impact of the new dangerous goods regulations on the operation of cp express and transport, a large for-hire highway common carrier. The new regulations came into effect July 1, 1985 and brought road transportation under dangerous goods legislation for the first time. The paper describes the training program and changes in day-to-day operations that were initiated to comply with the new regulations. Although costly to the individual carriers, the new legislation is seen as a step in the right direction towards the effective control of dangerous goods movement. (TRRL)
