POROUS PIPE RETURNS AS MUNICIPAL WATERING ALTERNATIVE
Advances in technology and quality control over the last several years led the Dallas Parks and Public Works departments to re-examine the technique of using porous pipe for landscape watering. Porous pipe is a simple technique and its potential benefits are considerable. Made of commercial grade rubber tubing, the pipe is installed underground, where it uniformly dispenses water to the root zone. By sending moisture directly to the most critical area, porous pipe is designed to promote deep root growth, eliminate wet/dry cycles, and produce dramatic water savings. Its flexibility makes it well-suited for diverse outdoor plantings, such as perimeter and raised beds, planters, and specialty turf areas like median strips for highways and parking lots. This article discusses further the advantages of porous pipe, its improved quality, and the excellent results obtained with Dallas median strip installations.
