FAA WEIGHS RESPONSE TO AGE-60 CHALLENGE
A U.S. appellate court earlier this year voided a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) order that rejected pilot requests for exemption from the "age-60" rule that has been in force since 1960. The rule prevents older crewmembers from acting as pilots of Part 121 flights, which involve commercial aircraft weighing more than 7,500 lb. and carrying more than 30 passenger seats. This article discusses the ongoing debate over the rule and evidence presented by the 28 pilots seeking exemption.
