SOFT GROUND TBMS SET A CRACKING PACE IN CARACAS
More than 12km of new twin-tube tunnel and 12 new underground stations will have been added to the Caracas Metro in the latest extension work, bringing the total system to 40km with 35 stations. Three contractors completed the last six tunneling contracts and all used Lovat fullface soft ground TBMs. These suited the sometimes extremely difficult, wet, mixed-face ground conditions well and some impressive production rates were achieved.
