BMS: EXPECT TO USE IT
Bridge management systems improve organized knowledge of the condition of bridges in a county or state. The systems will allow structured comparisons of bridge conditions within the area. They can be used to prioritize or optimize lists of bridges needing maintenance, rehabilitation, or replacement. If constructed properly, a BMS can give life-cycle cost estimates of projected maintenance, rehab, or replacement projects. It can also project bridge performance and deterioration, if programmed for these tasks. After use, data in the system allows the user to determine effectiveness of the repair and replacement strategies. This leads to better planning and scheduling of bridge maintenance, and more effective use of funds.
