COMPUTING ON THE RUN
It is noted that the mobility and flexibility of a portable computer affords advantages to the engineer helping him meet the challenges of his profession and perform most administrative tasks on the job site. Such computers also make it possible for a small firm to automate inexpensively. The advantages of laptop computers are also pointed out. The selection of a suitable computer is discussed. A table is presented of possible uses for which a computer may be required, suggested models, and their characteristics. Experience with buying a computer from a mail order outlet is described.
