KNOWLEDGE-BASED APPROCH TO PROJECT SCHEDULING SYSTEM SELECTION

This is the presentation of a knowledge-based approach to the selection of project scheduling systems that meet three criteria: a model of those factors which may influence system selection; a set assumptions which determine the results of those choices; and a set of rules which are applied to the facts of the particular office situation. Appendices are included which contain the questionnaires necessary to determine the values of relevant factors and the rules to apply those factors. The paper describes the construction office environment, general system features needed, project management system program environment, and classification of system capabilities. The method described is a project scheduling system for owners, architect/engineers, construction managers, and contractors. The method allows flexibility for wide application and distribution because the reviewer is able to make minor modification to the rules depending on local conditions.
