OKLAHOMA'S TTV MOVES BARRIER WALL IN ONE PASS

This article describes innovations used in a 4-mile reconstruction project on I-240 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, including a new machine that facilitates work zone traffic control. The unique machine moves a specially designed concrete barrier wall at a rate of 2,500 linear feet in 5 to 7 minutes. The new machine, called the transfer and transport vehicle (TTV), laterally transfers the barrier wall one lane over in one pass. The precast barriers are joined at the ends by hinge pins and have specially designed flared tops to allow the machine to pick them up. Two workers are required to operate the unit.
