TULSA MATERIALS LAB ASSURES QUALILTY ASPHALT STREETS
The Tulsa Materials and Testing Laboratory has a program which provides quality for street maintenance and rehabilitation. It approves all job-mix formulas and then inspects according to the approved job-mix. A typical testing procedure is described. The laboratory's quick turnaround on the tests enables the laboratory to effectively monitor paving quality. Tulsa's streets are full-depth asphalt. The normal specification range is 6 inches for residential streets, 8 inches for secondary streets, and 11 inches or 11.5 inches for major arterials. All full-depth pavements are placed on prepared subgrade. Comments are made on Tulsa's specifications. Contractors in Tulsa work under the quality assurance program. They make their own extractions and work closely with the laboratory during the entire project.
