PROTECTION OF PIPELINES THROUGH HIGHWAY ROADBEDS
This report summarizes information related to pipeline crossings of highways and develops guidelines for use by state and local highway officials in reviewing and approving requests for pipeline crossings of highways by utilities. Background information related to pipeline crossing highways is presented. Guidelines are presented which take into account factors including pipe location, construction methods, required cover, an assessment of consequences of failure, corrosion protection, design, and future highway widening and construction. Methods available for providing additional protection are discussed.
