REVIEWING SCHOOL BUS SAFETY STANDARDS
The Carrollton church bus crash in which 27 lives were lost due to smoke inhalation and fire injury partly because the only emergency exit in the rear of the bus was cut off by flames, has created renewed discussion into safety standards for school buses. Although federal safety standards are more stringent for school buses than those for transit buses and school buses are deemed to be far safer than transit buses, many still feel that even more stringent standards need to be implemented.
