NS SAVANNAH FUEL DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. INVESTIGATION OF THE OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FUEL ASSEMBLY
The operational characteristics of the fuel assembly of the N.S. Savannah are reported. The investigation reviewed assists in the establishment, by calculation and experimental methods, of the final mechanical configuration of the fuel assembly design. Factors considered in the study include: shipboard motions and loading criteria; fuel container deflections resulting from coolant flow pressure gradients; the mechanical and thermal characteristics inherent to the base or initial design concept; and clearance between the fuel rods and the fuel container wall.
