BUS DEREGULATION IN GREAT BRITAIN: A REVIEW OF THE OPENING STAGES
The Transport Act 1985 abolished quantity control of bus services in Great Britain and allowed subsidy to be paid for bus services only after competitive tendering. The report has three principal sections: the first describes the "commercial" services which operators proposed to run without subsidy; the second gives an account of the way local authorities planned; and the third discusses the effectiveness of the resulting combined pattern of bus services.
