A PRELIMINARY STUDY OF BUS SERVICE ON A MAJOR STREET (GALLE ROAD) WITH MANY OVERLAPPING ROUTES AND OPERATORS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SRI LANKA TRANSPORTATION FORUM HELD AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MORATUWA, SRI LANKA, JUNE 20-22, 1983

The supply of bus service on Galle Road which has many overlapping routes, one major public bus system and many private bus operators is analyzed, using data collected from a one day survey carried out at Bambalapitiya. The share of the total supply of buses (frequency of service) seats and passenger-spaces, provided by public and private systems is noted. The Colombo-Panadura route is analyzed in further detail. It is shown that bus arrivals during the peak period is a purely random process, and the possible reasons are discussed. For covering abstract see IRRD no 809202. (Author/TRRL)
