INSURANCE COLLISION REPORT. PASSENGER CARS, VANS, PICKUPS, AND UTILITY VEHICLES

This report describes variations in both the frequency and the size of collision coverage claims for damage to the following passenger cars, vans, pickups, and utility vehicles: 1988 models during their first year; 1987 models during their first two years; and 1986 models during their first three years. The report is based on collision coverage and loss data supplied by 13 insurers. A complete list of the vehicle classifications by make, series, body style, and size class is given in Appendix A, and definitions are given in Appendix B.

  • A separate, supplemental volume to this report, Appendices to R88-2, is available upon request. It contains detailed claim frequency and average loss payment per claim results for two classes of deductibles and for youthful and no youthful operators. The supplement also provides separate, detailed results by year of availability for 1986 and 1987 models.
