BUSH TRACK TO HIGHWAY. 200 YEARS OF AUSTRALIAN ROADS
Following a brief introduction, this booklet highlights some of the accomplishments in road and bridge building in Australia during the past 200 years. The network of roads and bridges has a particular Australian characteristic - while including freeways and bridges equal to the best in the world, it is largely comprised of many thousands of kilometres of basic rural roads. This reflects the needs of the nation which is made up of relatively few large cities situated mainly on the coast and separated by long distances across a vast and sparsely settled inland area.
