TRAFFIC IN CHILE. UNITED NATIONS: WORKSHOP ON TRAFFIC SAFETY, SEPT 28 - OCT 4 1987, LINKOEPING, SWEDEN. PART 1-2
This paper shows some aspects of present traffic conditions in Chile in relation to traffic police actions throughout the country. During the last ten years, vehicle ownership has grown rapidly at national level, the strongest effect being in Santiago, capital of Chile. There has been a substantial increase in the number of new drivers. The road capacity has had larger demand and therefore it has been necessary to develop programmes to improve the road network. The Ministry of Transportation and telecommunications is making studies of the standards that regulate the system in order to improve its operation. Carabineros of Chile does extensive work in this area. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 808557. (TRRL)
