TRENDS IN TRUCK TIRES
In this presentation at the 1986 annual RTAC conference, a representative from the Goodyear tire and rubber company addresses the subject of recent trends in truck tires as they relate to pavement wear. The trucking industry in North America is switching rapidly from bias to radial tires, from tubetype to tubeless, and from conventional to low profile or wider tread designs in the high speed long distance segments. The wider profile radials yield lower more consistent pavement loading. Tubeless tires have significant advantages in efficiency, durability and safety. The paper concludes with a discussion of the importance of proper tire inflation pressures as a factor in load capacity, rolling resistance, stability and efficiency. (TRRL)
