CRITICAL ASSESSMENT OF METHODS OF MEASURING THE RATE OF CORROSION OF STEEL IN REINFORCED CONCRETE
The purpose of this project was to: 1) critically assess currently available electrochemical methods of determining the rate of corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete, 2) identify promising techniques for ministry use, in the laboratory and in the field, and 3) recommend an appropriate test procedure for the techniques. Measurement techniques discussed include polarization resistance, e-log i, ac impedance and electrochemical noise. The project involved both laboratory experiments and visits to research centres in Canada, the United States, Britain and Spain. The report concludes with recommendations for future testing. (TRRL)
