HEAVY VEHICLE FUEL CONSUMPTION IN CANADA
Fuel consumption and g.c.w. (gross combination weight) records from 25 trucking operations across Canada were used in this study of the relationship between loaded gross vehicle weight and fuel economy for truck-trailer combinations operating in Canada. Special attention was paid to seasonal variations in this relationship and the identification of other variables impacting upon fuel performance. Based on the study results, mathematical equations are presented for calculating estimated fuel performance as a function of g.c.w. The seasonal effects on fuel performance are summarized, and the report concludes that there is great potential for improving fuel performance in the Canadian trucking industry through improvements in driving habits, proper vehicle maintenance and selection of optimum operating conditions.
