ROAD AND RAIL COST MODEL: THE QUANTIFICATION OF SHIPPER CHOICE
The report describes the calculation of road and rail transport costs and incorporates the quantification of transit time differentials and quality-of-service characteristics. These cost and service functions are included in an interactive computerized model which has been written by the author and is suitable for use on personal computers. The program is written in BASIC language and calculates transport cost functions and total distribution costs for any commodity and length of haul for both road and rail transport.
