WEAR/SURFACE TREATMENT DURING WHEEL/RAIL CONTACT. FINAL REPORT.
VERSCHLEISS/OBERFLAECHENBEHANDLUNG IM RAD/SCHIENEKONTAKT. ABSCHLUSSBERICHT.
Within the report the methods are described to get out of microscopic datas, e.g., chemical composition of the rail steel, macroscopic data like modulus of elasticity, wear rates, etc. for the system wheel/ rail. The methods are "ab-initio" calculation, which means no phenomenological laws are employed. In a special chapter improved classical methods are used to calculate the worn form of a profile. Here the wear rate is an input parameter. A promising measure to reduce wear is according to our calculations the development of a glasslike layer on the rail. The conditions for this development are also calculated.
