ESTIMATION OF UP-WASH DISTRIBUTION AROUND AN AUTOMOBILE BY THREE-DIMENSIONAL SMOKE WIND TUNNEL TEST
Estimate on the up-wash distribution around an automobile while running was made by visualizing a pattern of flow around the car model by using a three-dimensional wind tunnel. By using a coordinate Z = Z/H wherein H is height of a car model, and the distribution of the up-was angle along X and Y directions can be replaced by the distribution of the up-wash angle of Rankine for enabling the analytical description f Z is more than 2. Distribution of up-wash angle along Y direction, which allows very limited estimate only, can widen its application. Furthermore, in the range wherein the Reynolds number effect causes no effect on the shape of the flow line at the car front, an up-wash effect of the automobile should be subtracted from various aerodynamical characteristics of the tested airfoil measured on the automobile.
