AVIATION SAFETY RESEARCH ACT OF 1988. REPORT OF THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON COMMERCE, SCIENCE, AND TRANSPORTATION ON S. 2746, 100TH CONGRESS, 2D SESSION

The Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, to which was referred the bill (S. 2746) to amend the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 relating to aviation research, having considered the same, reports favorably thereon with an amendment in the nature of a substitute and recommends that the bill do pass. The bill, as reported, requires the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to increase its research efforts in several areas affecting air safety, including human factors, to prepare an annual national research plan, and to devote increased funds toward long-term research. The bill also establishes the Civil Aeromedical Institute (CAMI) as a part of the FAA and establishes an FAA Research Advisory Committee.
