INVESTIGATIONS ON THE DIMENSIONS OF IMPACT PROTECTION DEVICES, BOLLARDS, AND GUIDES ON CANAL LOCKS
UNTERSUCHUNGEN UEBER DIE BEMESSUNG VON STOSS-SCHUTZEINRICHTUNGEN, POLLERN UND LEITWERKEN AN BINNENSCHIFFSSCHLEUSEN
Locking large ships into and out of locks is frequently not simple nautically. It is therefore necessary to equip the incoming and outgoing areas of canal locks with protection, guide and fastening devices. There is a detailed report on the development of this equipment, where the application, different designs and constructions and dimensioning criteria of the most varied fastening, guides and bollards are specially treated. Starting from explanations of the development of inland navigation (pusher barges, freight ships with engines, large ships with engines), there are reports on different types of bollards (platform, edge, recess and floating bollards) and their dimensions, and on damage and its cause to guides and bollards. Impact protection devices are introduced (rope and net equipment, impact protection beams, pressure limiting and throttle systems).
