SULFATE ATTACK RESISTANCE OF PORTLAND CEMENT MIXTURES CONTAINING PHOSPHOGYPSUM. CONCRETE DURABILITY. KATHERINE AND BRYANT MATHER INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, HELD AT ATLANTA, GEORGIA, USA, 27 APRIL-MAY 1987

This paper studies the sulfate attack resistance of portland cement mixtures containing conventional aggregate and phosphogypsum (by-product gypsum). A wide range of so3 and c3a contents is investigated with respect to linear expansion and compressive strength development for specimens submerged in fresh or sea water. Experimental results show that as phosphogypsum content increases expansion also increases. There is a threshold of c3a content in the mixture below which the specimen expansion decreases with the increasing of cement content and above which the higher the cement the higher the specimen expansion. If the so3 to cement ratio is maintained constant, expansion monotonically increases as a function of c3a. Maximum phosphogypsum and cement contents can be found based on linear expansion and compressive strength development. (Author/TRRL)
