DYNAMIC INTERACTION BETWEEN TUNNEL AND SURROUNDING SOIL DUE TO SEISMIC LOADING. PROCEEDINGS OF THE ELEVENTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SOIL MECHANICS AND FOUNDATION ENGINEERING, SAN FRANCISCO, 12-16 AUGUST 1985
The dynamic response of tunnels under seismic loading is strongly influenced by the dynamic interaction between the tunnel tube and surrounding soil. Realistic results of response behavior are obtained using calculations based on the finite element method. In this paper, investigations of the dynamic behavior of the total soil-tunnel system are presented. Parameters are the number of tubes, different shapes and stiffnesses of construction, overburden of the tunnel and several damping ratios of the soil. The calculated results demonstrate the interaction effects caused by soil-structures as well between two tunnels. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 287689. (TRRL)
