PIER FOUNDATIONS OF THE SAUDI ARABIA - BAHRAIN CAUSEWAY. PROCEEDINGS OF THE ELEVENTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SOIL MECHANICS AND FOUNDATION ENGINEERING, SAN FRANCISCO, 12-16 AUGUST 1985
Of the total 25 km of the Saudi Arabia-Bahrain causeway, 11.5 km consists of bridges supported on piers embedded directly into the bedrock. This paper describes the geology, site investigation for these piers and correlations between various soil parameters. Comparisons are presented between predicted vertical and horizontal pier deflections and the results from loading tests. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 287689. (Author/TRRL)
