FATIGUE RELIABILITY: ECCS SAFETY FACTORS
This technical note presents a simplified method for the determination of partial safety factors using the safety index. The text begins by reviewing a safety concept that was recently proposed in the design recommendations published by the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS 1985). Secondly, using this concept, partial safety factors are related directly to the safety index using a simple formula. Finally, some examples are shown graphically and areas are identified where further development is required.
