THORACIC MODEL IMPROVEMENTS (EXPERIMENTAL TISSUE PROPERTIES). VOLUME II. TECHNICAL REPORT
Much of the experimental work on determining the mechanical behavior of soft tissues has not been cast in the framework of a complete solid mechanics tissue behavior from the existing literature. The basic tests reported include uniaxial tension, biaxial membrane inflation and burst, tubular inflation, torsion and direct compression on a very wide range of human and animal tissues. The data provides no information of real use to a continuum mechanics characterization of the tissue behaviors. The main emphasis is upon impact type high strain rate behavior of biological tissues and as such the main form of data acquisition was in terms of high strain rate stress-strain curves to failure.
