WEAR OF VEHICLE TYRES IN SOUTH AFRICA
BANDGEBRUIK VAN VOERTUIE IN SUID-AFRIKA
This report provides a detailed estimate of tyre wear of the following vehicle classes operating in South Africa: cars, mini-buses, midi-buses, single-decker buses, double-decker buses, bus-trains, light goods vehicles, medium size goods vehicles and heavy goods vehicles. The underlying factors of tyre wear are discussed. Tyre wear rates are supplied for constant speeds, horizontal curves and speed change cycles. Estimates of tyre wear on rural roads in flat, rolling and mountainous topography are made, while average tyre wear rates at different speeds are also supplied for urban traffic conditions.
