URBAN ROADS APPRAISAL: TRAFFIC MODELLING

The paper firstly considers strategic level transport modelling. Following consideration of the model form as a whole, the distribution, modal split and assignment stages are discussed in more detail. At the more detailed route selection and scheme design stages, congested assignment models are an important recent development and are discussed next. Some comments on the role and form of urban speed/flow relationships are then presented, followed by a final section on the treatment of traffic growth in urban areas.
