TESTS FOR BITUMINOUS MATERIALS

This article is the report of a colloquium organised by BACMI and held at Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands on July 11th 1985. The objective of the colloquium on "Tests for Bituminous Materials to Be Included in Future British Standards" was to consider the following points: (1) What are the properties that are critical to the performance of bituminous materials and that need to be controlled? (2) What tests for these properties are already available or need development? (3) How can it be ensured that tests are suitable for incorporation in British standards? and (4) How are new tests to be developed or precision determinations to be carried out and who would pay? The discussions were divided into two sessions: (a) tests on the structural properties of bituminous roadbases and basecovers and (b) tests on wearing courses and surface characteristics. This report briefly reports the discussions. (TRRL)
