LATERAL LOAD DISTRIBUTION IN MULTI-GIRDER BRIDGES
An overview is provided of insights gained on idealization and simplification for analysis and selected illustrative results developed on AISI Project 332, "Lateral Load Distribution for Multigirder Bridges." Three analytical models have been implemented in the study and the applicability and limitations of the AASHTO s/D rule are explored. The use of a grid model to represent the essential predictions of the more exact analytical models are explored. Grid model is seen as a useful option for a lateral load distribution provision in the specification. A simple microcomputer implementation of a grid model based provision is seen to be a workable possibility.
