QUARTZ-TIMED SIGNS REPLACE FLAGGERS
This two-signal unit, originally designed in West Germany, operates with battery-powered, quartz timing. Tests at Texas A&M showed that the system was reliable and could replace flaggers at lower costs, as well as reduce liability. Signals can be traffic controlled or controlled with pre-set timing. An extended arm unit gives 8-ft separation of the two signals. The system is unique in that no cable connections are required. The quartz timers are extremely accurate and have been in use in West Germany for more than eight years.
