ENGINE FUELS WITH A LOW ALCOHOL CONTENT
MATALASEOSTEISET ALKOHOLIPOLTTOAINEET
The usability of fuels with a low alcohol content in Finland's climate has not been studied extensively. The studies carried out in other countries have indicated that the maximum proportion of alcohol addition to petrol should be less or equal to 5% and the total proportion of oxygenates less or equal to 10% to guarantee satisfactory operation of the engine adjusted to petrol use. A slight decrease was observed in the driveability of the cold engine in the heating phase when proportion of alcohol was increasing. No driveability problems were observed when the engine was warm. No differences were observed in the properties of the lubricant between the groups, nor problems in the operation of the test cars. The driveability was in general considered good when using the test fuel. However, this brief field test does not cover completely problems possibly emerging in a more extensive use of these fuels.
