MULTIBEAM CONCRETE BRIDGES WITH MEDIUM SPANS

ROSTILJNI SKLOPOVI BETONSKIH MOSTOVA SREDNJIH RASPONA

The article describes medium-span multibeam concrete bridges which are constructed with semi-prefabricated elements. It briefly reviews and evaluate the method used for forming the cross-section, calculation methods and computer aided design methods. Details are given of the method used for the quick design and checking of the main girders' cross-section, based on the "method of a cross-section unit". Test results are presented on the influence of the number of transverse beams on load distribution. According to these results this influence depends on the number and on the torsion stiffness of longitudinal girders. Finally, an optimization method is presented, which takes into account economical aspects and bridge durability. (TRRL)
