STOCHASTIC PRESENTATION OF EARTHQUAKE GROUND MOVEMENT
STOHASTICKA PREZENTACIJA POTRESNOG GIBANJA TLA
The need for more reliable requirements regarding the design of structures subjected to earthquake tremors has produced a new term "random vibrations" which has an abstract meaning for structural engineers. The article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of this new method and presents the simulation of earthquake accelerograms using the "white noise" random process. The author concludes that the "white noise" is suitable to be represented as a mathematical model for an absolute random process such as earthquake tremors. It has certain disadvantages which are not so significant, if there is damping in the system, which is always the case with engineering structures. (TRRL)
