INVESTIGATIONS INTO MESSAGES CARRIED BY TRAFFIC SIGNS DESIGNED FOR PEDESTRIANS
ISTRAZIVANJA ZNACENJA ZNAKOVA NAMENJENIH PESACIMA
The article presents the test method used and results obtained when studying the degree of perception of traffic signs designed for pedestrians and their significance. In urban areas, pedestrians constitute the largest group of road users. This imposes a requirement for the provision of a specifically adapted system of urban routes and further requirement for the provision of a specific method of visual communication, i.e., traffic signs. Out of a total number of 190 signs available, only 6 signs refer to pedestrians. The introduction of pedestrian zones in urban areas gives rise to the need for improving visual communication for pedestrians. These particular signs are not yet covered by any legal standards and criteria. The article discusses the efficiency of the graphic design (i.e. Message) and the perception of those traffic signs promoting the need for a different approach on a scientific research basis. (TRRL)
