CORRELATION OF CAUSATIVE EXTROVERT FACTORS AND THE FREQUENCY OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS INVOLVING BUS DRIVERS
POVEZANOST FAKTORA EKSTRAVERTNOSTI KAO UZROCNIKA SA UCESTALOSCU BROJA SAOBRACAJNIH NEZGODA VOZACA AUTOBUSA
The behaviour of bus drivers varies not only in respect of driving quality (driving skill, adherence to time-table, relations with passengers etc.) but also in respect of the difference in the number of traffic accidents in which they are involved. The objective of the investigation is to determine whether the extrovert factors are the main factors of risk behaviour in traffic accidents. The extrovert personality characteristics are tested in a sample of bus drivers (n-26) by the eysenck's test which presumes (the first hypothesis) that those characteristics are the explanation of part of the total variance of traffic accident causes in the population of professional bus drivers. Statistically important differences between the two groups of drivers (l group without an accident, n-161, and the group with previous accidents, n-100) are established in respect of extrovert behaviour by hi-square test (P<0.05). The second hypothesis stating the important (high-degree) correlation of extrovert factors and the number of traffic accidents is also confirmed. The correlation (pirson) is r=0.59. Using the formulae for underestimated values (common for such data) r=0.77 is obtained showing the determining effect of extrovert factors on the risk behaviour of drivers in traffic. (TRRL)
